This semester you will have the opportunity to conduct mini research as an anthropologist and apply/ make connections with the material you have learned in class. Given the emphasis of the course, you will be exploring material culture in a museum.

This assignment has 3 parts that will be submitted together....
1. Field Notes
Approximately 4 pages (handwritten front and back).
-Must include the following.
-- DATE
--Start and End times
-- Areas Visited
--Specific (detailed) observations
--Pics/ sketches
--other information from area (ex. placards... what do they say)
2. Background Research
(2 pages typed, 12 font, New Times Roman, Double spaced)
After you go to the museum do some research on the material culture you observed. Provide a brief "fact sheet". (artifact: cultural group, time period...ect.... other issues things of interest related to your topic.... Think about how the museum display was organized what did it include/ exclude....
3. Observation
(2 pages typed, 12 Font, New Times Roman, Double spaced)
Compare your background research data to the museum experience.
Museum: Reflect on what you've learned about the artifact and culture. Ex. Discussion questions.... Does the display accurately depict the culture your researched? What narrative is being depicted in the exhibit? How did the material culture change over time.... in the display what range of dates are depicted....?
